A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS PT. 1

Julie Andrews danced through the monastery halls singing about raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens and brown paper packages tied up with strings. Redeemed Girl decided that we wanted to share a few of our favorite things! While cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels are delightful I’m sure, we wanted to get practical and share about our favorite things we simply can’t live without.

Without further ado, we bring you Part 1 of our favorite things!

Stay tuned for Part 2 when Millie and Rebecca will be sharing next week!

MARIAN’S FAVORITE THINGS

The Hebrew/ Greek Key Word Study Bible– NASB

This is my go-to Bible for all my study needs. It is literally duct taped together I use it so often.  What makes this Bible so unique from other study Bibles (and why it made it to the top of my favorite things list) is that it includes study tools that would normally require three or four other books. My Hebrew/ Greek Key Word Study Bible includes a full concordance, original language dictionary and cross-references…which makes studying God’s Word in any location a breeze!

As I study a passage of scripture, I can dig deeper into the original language, which enlightens the truth and gives greater understanding to the text. There are a few different versions available, but I prefer the New American Standard Bible. This is a word-for-word translation from the original language.  Stay tuned to the Redeemed Girl blog for a tutorial on how to use this gem!

Hair Powder

Confession: I hate to wash my hair. It’s not the shampoo/ condition/ repeat part that I dread. Oh. No! I like a good lather like any girl. The part of this process that drives me crazy is the blow-dry.  Here’s the deal, I have enough hair for four people, so blow drying my locks takes a good hour.

Aint’ nobody got time for that!

Therefore, God bless the person (probably a woman) who invented hair powder! This stuff is magic! I can extend my blowouts for days and keep my locks looking fresh and clean.  There are a variety of different brands on the market, but my personal favorite is Oscar Blande Dry Shampoo.

Bunn Coffee Maker

I’m a bit of a coffee snob. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t walk into Starbucks and order a drink with 10 adjectives attached to the name. I am a simple girl, with simple needs. I like my coffee strong and hot. (just like my man, can I get an “amen?”)

I digress. Back to coffee. Girls, I’ve traveled the globe and I’ve found that the best coffee is not about the beans but about the machine. Here is THE BEST COFFEE MAKER IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

Bunn is hands down the best coffee maker. Major coffee shops like Dunkin’ Donuts use Bunn, but that’s not the reason why it tastes so great.  Here’s the science: They emphasize the coffee being at the correct temperature, which is around 200 degrees F. Even if you don’t like your coffee hot, it needs to be heated to the right temperature initially for the proper taste from the coffee grinds to be infused into the water.

This specific machine heats the water ahead of time, so you don’t have to wait for the coffee maker to heat up. That hot water hits the grinds and stays in the carafe for just the proper amount of time for it to brew up a great tasting batch of your favorite coffee. The bottom warmer is also the perfect way to keep it tasting nice and hot for quite a while.

The. Perfect. Cup!

Should you ever find yourself in San Antonio, stop on by my house and I will make a pot and we can talk about Jesus.

BLAKE’S FAVORITE THINGS

Darling Magazine

I wish I could live inside the beautiful pages of this magazine!! And when I say beautiful, I am not kidding. A hundred pages of thick, oversized, cardstock pages with wonderful, thought-provoking articles and images that make my creative heart swoon! I meticulously turn each page because the whole magazine is a piece of art.

The mission behind the magazine makes me love it even more.  You won’t find articles that make you blush because of the sex topics or the latest and greatest diet fads. Instead, you’ll find thoughtful, meaningful articles with depth and integrity. Here’s a glimpse at part of their mission statement: “Darling is a catalyst for positive change; leading women to discover beauty apart from vanity, influence apart from manipulation, style apart from materialism, sweetness apart from passivity, and womanhood without degradation.” Their words never cease to inspire me.

GPS

This is no joke…I have to thank the creator of the GPS because I would literally be in the middle of Timbuktu without one. Lit-er-al-ly! It’s no secret that I can’t read a map to save my life and that I’m absolutely horrible with directions. A few years ago I had the pleasure of picking up Marian and Rebecca at an airport I’d been to a few times before. Y’all I was an HOUR AND A HALF late because I got so lost!!! Have yet to live that one down…

Normally I use the map app that’s already on my iphone – but I also love Waze. They will let you know if there are stopped cars, accidents, and police cars looming ahead. When I say lifesaver, I mean it!

The Lip Slip

It’s rare to find color on my lips. I will say I’m taking some big girl steps into the world of lipstick by occasionally wearing a bright color, but more often than not, I go with natural lip balm. My Mom introduced me to Lip Slip and now I swear by it!

This little miracle leaves my lips feeling smooth and hydrated all day long.  Lip Slip doesn’t have any color, just the perfect amount of shine and shimmer!  It smells fantastic and isn’t sticky or gooey.  You can find this gem at local boutiques or online!
