If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14, ESV

If someone had the cure for cancer, we would want them to tell the whole world, right? This is how we at Redeemed Girl feel about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe the fact that Jesus came to save us from our sin and heal our brokenness is the best news of all time and the whole world needs to know it. Therefore, we share this amazing message of life and freedom with women across the globe through our outreach event, Girls Night Out. Our founder, Marian Jordan Ellis, tells her personal story of looking for love in all the wrong places and explains how Jesus rescued her from a life of emptiness, brokenness, and shame.

Over the past ten years, over 11,000 women have trusted Christ as Savior. As Outreach Coordinator for Redeemed Girl Ministries, I have the profound privilege of planning these events and traveling with Marian as she proclaims this good news to women.

“Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

As I planned our 2017 spring events, the Lord placed on my heart the word “revival.” We longed to see a great awakening occur in our nation. As a Christian millennial, the ever increasing darkness in my generation breaks my heart. Yes, I believe Jesus is victorious, but the brokenness and bondage of my generation grieves me.  Little did we know how the enemy would come against this prayer. Just as soon as we began our outreaches this semester, we noticed a shift in the spiritual climate on college campuses and the opposition from the enemy more intense. We felt the battle over each school and more specifically each woman who would attend.

We recognized these challenges from the very first event and knew we had to combat this increased opposition with prayer. The Bible teaches us that prayer is our offensive spiritual weapon, and through prayer, we can move mountains and bring about the will of God. I’m here to testify that the Lord hears and answers prayer and He desires to heal our land!

Our first event was at Lehigh University. From the moment we stepped on campus, we heard rumors had spread that our event would be filled with “hate speech” because we are Christians.  Students were encouraged to boycott. Our hearts broke that the enemy would lie and deceive people. We immediately began to pray God would cancel this lie and bring women from every corner of campus. We prayed each student would walk away hearing the message grace, not hate.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us- whatever we ask- we know that we have what we asked of him.”

1 John 5:14-15

Friends, God answered our prayer! As our musician sang Justin Bieber’s Let Me Love You, women poured into the room from all corners of campus: sorority girls, college athletes, liberals, conservatives, and women of different religions, races, colors, and backgrounds. The scheme to keep them away did not work! We praise God that 13 women committed their lives to Christ. After the event, Marian had the opportunity to speak one on one with several women who initially came to protest the event, yet, after hearing the message, they wanted to know more about a relationship with God. We also had the joy of giving a few girls their very first Bibles!

Following Lehigh University, we traveled to The University of Virginia, West Chester University, and The University of Illinois. With each event, we increased our prayers because we recognized the battle over each woman and our own desperation for Jesus to move.

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Luke 11:9-10

As we traveled to West Chester University, I felt the spiritual atmosphere shift again, but this time for the better. Their planning team prayed boldly, and we witnessed the fruit of their prayers as 90 women trusted to Christ. I can’t even describe how excited we were as we heard this news. Our last event of the winter caused another huge celebration as 118 women at The University of Illinois prayed to begin a relationship with God.  Our desire for revival was answered.

Overall, this semester’s GNO travel has been such a joy. Not only did we see many come to life in Christ, but God renewed my faith and strengthened my prayer-life. Having grown up in church I’d always been around prayer, but it was never my first line of action until joining staff with Redeemed Girl Ministries.

I’ve learned that prayer has authority in the spiritual realm and can change lives! When I pray in faith, in the Name of Jesus, I can have confidence that He will hear my prayers. (1 John 5:14)

My prayer today is that you, too, would come to believe that your prayers are powerful. Together, we can all pray for revival and see God do great things! The Bible says, “If my people humble themselves and pray” then God will hear from heaven and heal our land.

I am honored to invite you to join us for our next Girls Night Out in Orlando, Florida on April 20th. Please pray with us for hundreds of young women to find life, love, and freedom in a relationship with Jesus Christ.

For His Glory,

Emily Wilburn
