Are We Living in the End Times? A Biblical Response to Today’s Headlines
In the past several days, global headlines have been dominated by escalating conflict in the Middle East following the bombing of Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Retaliation, rising tensions, and the possibility of broader war have left many people watching the news with a growing sense of unease.
Whenever conflict intensifies in that region of the world, one question inevitably begins circulating among Christians:
Are we witnessing events that point to the end times?
It’s a fair question. And it’s not a new one.
Throughout history, moments of global crisis—wars, political upheaval, natural disasters—have caused believers to revisit the Bible’s teaching about the return of Christ. These moments remind us that the world is fragile and that history is moving toward a future God has already revealed in Scripture.
What Does the Bible Say About the End Times?
Christians often use the phrase “end times” to describe the period of history leading up to the return of Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches that one day Jesus will return in glory, evil will be defeated, and God will fully establish His kingdom on earth.
However, Scripture also makes it clear that no one knows the exact timing of these events.
Jesus said: “Now concerning that day or hour no one knows—neither the angels in heaven nor the Son—but only the Father.”
—Mark 13:32
For this reason, Christians throughout history have lived with both anticipation and humility. Global events can remind us of the fragility of the world, but Scripture calls us to trust God’s timing rather than trying to predict specific dates.
What the Bible emphasizes again and again is not speculation about the calendar, but spiritual readiness.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve received emails from women finishing the final sessions of the Anchored Bible study who are reading Peter’s words about the coming “day of the Lord” in 2 Peter. Several have asked thoughtful questions about the second coming of Christ and how events in the world might relate to what Scripture teaches.
These questions matter. Not because we need to speculate about dates or build timelines, but because the Bible repeatedly tells us that the return of Christ should shape the way believers live today.
When Jesus spoke about the future in passages like Mark 13, He warned His disciples that history would include wars, conflict, and turmoil. Nations would rise against nations. Earthquakes and famine would come. The world would experience seasons of upheaval that remind humanity how broken creation truly is.
But Jesus did not give these teachings so His followers would live in fear or endlessly debate the timeline of events.
When Jesus and the apostles talked about the end times, their primary goal was not to give believers a chart.
Their goal was to prepare our hearts.
And the message they repeated over and over again was simple: Be ready.
Not fearful.
Not obsessed with speculation.
But spiritually awake.
Because while the headlines may feel chaotic, Scripture reminds us of a steady and hopeful truth:
History is not spinning out of control. It is moving toward the return of Christ!
The Certainty Christians Hold
While believers may disagree on the exact sequence of end-time events, Scripture is clear about one thing: Jesus Christ will return.
The same Jesus who came the first time in humility—born in Bethlehem, laid in a manger, crucified on a Roman cross—will return again as the victorious King. When He comes, evil will be defeated, justice will be established, and Christ will make all things new.
What About the Rapture?
One question that often arises when discussing Christ’s return is the rapture.
Passages like 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 describe believers being gathered to the Lord when He returns. Throughout church history, faithful Christians have understood the timing of this event in different ways.
Some believe the rapture occurs before the tribulation.
Others believe it happens during it.
Others believe it coincides with Christ’s visible return.
These differences are not about whether Christ returns—all Bible-believing Christians affirm that He will. The differences revolve around the timing and sequence of events.
In Anchored, I intentionally did not focus on constructing a detailed timeline. Instead, the emphasis remains on what Scripture repeatedly calls believers to live ready for Christ’s return.
The Hope That Anchors Us
Moments like the one we’re living in right now remind us of something we often forget: this world is not our final home. The headlines may feel chaotic, but Scripture reminds us of a greater truth. The story of history does not end in war. It ends with Jesus returning in glory! Until that day, the call for every believer is simple.
Stay awake.
Stay faithful.
Stay anchored.
If you want to grow in that kind of readiness—anchored in truth and rooted in Scripture—studying God’s Word is the best place to begin. My prayer in writing the Anchored Bible study was to help women build a faith that is steady in uncertain times and firmly grounded in the promises of Christ.
Because the goal of the Christian life is not to live in fear of the future.
It is to live faithfully today—while we wait for the day our King returns.
