Favorite Things: January 2021 Edition

The Best Daily Devotional Books

It’s that time of year when everyone talks about goal setting, resolutions, and making 2021 the BEST YEAR EVER. It’s time for a new beginning, and I am here for it! One area that many of us need a fresh start is our spiritual lives. We know that prioritizing time alone with Jesus is key to experiencing all that God has for us, yet the craziness of life can easily sidetrack us from this priority.

The great thing about the first week of January is that we are all buzzing with motivation, but sometimes we lack direction. Therefore, this month in our January Favorite Things post, I want to offer two of my favorite tools for spending time with God.I love these devotional books and use them both daily in my time with the Lord.  Truthfully, I like them so much that I gave dozens to friends and family as Christmas gifts this year.

First, Prevail: 365 Days of Enduring Strength from God’s Word by Susie Larson. I admire this woman so much. I was on her radio show, Susie Larson Live, a few years ago discussing my book Stand. In a 30-minute conversation, I knew I was talking to a woman of deep spiritual insight and passion for others to experience God’s power personally. Her devotional book is unique because she challenges you to process and interact with the scripture personally by asking great reflection questions.

My other favorite devotional book is New Morning Mercies, written by the brilliant Paul David Tripp. This man is an incredible Bible teacher. He challenges me to know, love, and follow Christ more faithfully.  I love this devotional style because it offers daily teachings from the author plus scripture passages for further study. I can promise you this: you will love Jesus more after reading New Morning Mercies.

As I start fresh this year, I remember that I don’t need a new routine, 7-step plan of action, or a fancy new calendar; what I require more than anything else is an encounter with the Living God. Both of these devotionals made the list of my favorite things because they help me do just that!

For His Glory,

Marian
